Daniele Tibullo is a Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Catania and a fine-art photographer. His visual research emerges from the encounter between scientific observation and artistic sensibility—two seemingly distant languages united by a desire to explore what lies beyond the surface of things. His scientific background profoundly shapes the way he approaches photography. As in biological research, his gaze focuses on processes of transformation, invisible relationships, and the delicate balances connecting living organisms to their environment. Photography thus becomes both an instrument of knowledge and a poetic space in which reality can shed its familiar appearance and reveal unexpected meanings.Nature occupies a central place in his work—not simply as a subject to be represented, but as a living, fragile organism in a continuous state of transformation. Through macro photography, intentional camera movement, light, and abstraction, Tibullo explores the boundaries between observation and imagination, presence and trace, matter and memory. In projects including Face to Face, Traces, Tutto si trasforma, and What Remains, scientific observation converges with an intimate exploration of the relationship between humankind and the natural world. Rather than offering definitive answers, his images seek to raise questions, restoring dignity to the smallest forms of life, to silent transformations, and to what continues to exist after our passage. For Tibullo, science and photography share the same origin: wonder. Both arise from the act of observing, from the need to understand, and from the awareness that every discovery opens a threshold onto something that remains unseen.
